Cancer sucks. When writing of something so tragic and heartbreaking it can be near impossible to choose the right words. So, suffice it to say cancer sucks. The reach of the disease is wide- most of us in some way have been affected by the affliction. When facing such a challenge it may be easy to relent and give up. For all of those that are currently fighting or will pick up the fight in the future- we ride.
The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge is the country's original bicycle charity ride to raise funds for cancer treatment and research. For the 35th consecutive year thousands of people will ride from central Massachusetts to Cape Cod to raise awareness of the plight of cancer patients. Last year alone PMC riders raised 39 million dollars for the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. You heard that right 39 million dollars. The total amount raised since the PMC's inception in 1980 has been $414,000,000! This year, PMC riders are striving to surpass a fundraising goal of 40 million dollars. We aren't talking chump change. Not only has all that money been raised, but EVERY cent of it has gone directly to the beneficiaries. It is quite a feat that the PMC organization along with its 3,000 volunteers is able to put on such a huge event and is still able to donate 100% of the proceeds to charity.
Huckleberry Bicycles mechanic, Mike Jacobson, will be riding in his fourth consecutive PMC. Along with 18 friends and family, Mike will be riding for the Jaunt for Jake team. Last year the team raised over $100,000 bringing their three year total to over $300,000. The team hopes to exceed last year's staggering sum. It will not be easy, and that is why they need your help. Mike, along with his peers in the service department, strives to exceed all expectations and provide the best possible service. We ask that if you are thrilled with the service you receive to consider donating money digitally through the Jaunt for Jake team page. We understand that money is tight for many of us, and for that we appreciate you considering this incredibly worthy cause. Thank you again from everyone here at Huckleberry Bicycles for supporting our mechanic, Mike, in his journey across the country to help support those affected by cancer.
Sincerely,
Your Huckleberries
