All-City Cycles gives their iconic Mr. Pink a Whisky upgrade and some new lipstick
The 2017 Mr. Pink sports a new custom carbon fork by Whiskey Components and one of the most stellar paint jobs we've seen this season. All sizes are available now.
Here is what All~City has to say. Our flagship road racer was designed to carry you as quickly and efficiently as possible over any road surface. From pot-hole-filled city streets, to smooth country roads, and gravel centuries, this bike does it all with the style and smoothness that can only come from high-end steel. Geometry-wise, it's a classic racer, but we've made tweaks to the equation that remove the limitations associated with your average road bike. It has clearance for 32c tires (28's w/fenders) for mixed-terrain riding, hidden fender mounts for foul-weather days and an ED coating for rust prevention and longevity. The perennial favorite Columbus Zona tubeset is light weight and provides a stiff, yet remarkably comfortable ride. New this year is the addition of an excellent Whisky No. 7 carbon fork made to our exact specifications, which is a remarkable 1.45lbs lighter than our previous steel version, and still allows for the use of mid-reach brakes and 32c tires. The Mr. Pink sports all of our classic steel touches: a custom head badge, All-City signature dropouts, signature brazed-on seat collar, internal top tube cable routing for the rear brake, a pump peg and reinforcement stars on the bottle bosses. These are the signifiers of quality that inform, at a glance, that this is a high-end, hand-crafted machine. The complete bike is decked out with SRAM's excellent Rival 22 group, a Zipp cockpit, tubeless ready rims built to our new Super Champ SL hubs, and Clement tires. This is the frame that won the 2013 Gravel World Championships and has been campaigned in all manner of crits, road races, fondos and gravel events. Standout in a world of alloy and carbon, ride one for yourself and feel just how amazing a steel roadbike can be. Fork Story: While we absolutely were in love with our steel fork, many folks wanted a lighter carbon option. In fact, they wanted a carbon fork on their Mr. Pink so badly that they were willing to put a moustache on our Mona Lisa and totally screw up all of the really cool things about the Mr. Pink. You see, the Mr. Pink is a mid-reach road bike for a darn good reason, so that it can tackle any road you may want to ride upon. When we introduced the bike in 2011 folks didn’t get why you’d want to run 32’s on a road bike. Thankfully today, with the popularity of gravel, they do. That mid-reach fork was a bit longer axle to crown than your standard road fork to gain that extra clearance. However mid-reach road caliper carbon forks were like hens teeth and so these folks resorted to using traditional short reach road forks. In essence, they negated the premise of the bike by limiting themselves to 28c tires in front, messing up the carefully created geometry, and then also suffering the indignity of having to use a short reach caliper up front and a mid in the rear. We knew we had to do something so we partnered with our homies at Whisky Parts Co. to create a perfect companion to our frame. One that would preserve the tire clearance, handling geometry, and allow for a matching pair of stoppers front and rear. The carbon fork saves 1.45lbs over our steel version and will be available from Whisky in black , with a small run of 30 pink painted forks to match our last generation of frames available from All-City.
